Environmental Pollution Causes Endangered Animals

Gambar
The problem of garbage in the sea from day to day is increasingly unstoppable. This has a tremendous impact on marine life. In addition to polluting the oceans, rubbish is also consumed and poisoned by marine animals. For example, plastic waste. Plastics are synthetic organic polymers. The lightweight, strong and durable plastic character makes plastic widely used for manufacturing various kinds of products, especially packaging products. The University of Georgia study released in 2016 found that the oceans in Indonesia are the second in the world to store the most plastic waste. At the "One Day Seminar on Marine Tropical Diversity and Sustainability" seminar at the Winter School Program 2018, Thursday (1/25) at Ged B 101 FMIPA UI, Dr. rer. nat. Mufti Petala Patria, M.Sc., Department of Biology marine expert FMIPA UI in her presentation explained that more than 8 million tons of plastic waste is discharged into the sea each year, around 80% of which comes from acti...

The Bad Side of Plastic and How to Deal With It

Gambar
In this era, humans cannot be separated from the name plastic. Plastics are always used in a variety of daily needs, for example for drinks and food, shopping and much more. Plastic is used because it is lightweight, not easily broken, cheap, and easy to get. But many people are not aware of the dangers caused by the use of plastic on the environment, because a lot of the recommended plastic is only for single use. This has a negative impact on the environment. Overuse of plastic will result in pollution of plastic waste. One factor that causes damage to the environment which until now is a factor in the disposal of plastic waste. Plastic bags have become dangerous and difficult to manage waste. It takes decades or even hundreds of years to make the plastic waste completely biodegradable. But the problem is the negative impact caused by plastic waste which has a huge impact on the environment. Disposal of careless plastic waste will cause siltation of the river and clogged river fl...

The Process of Creating Plastics

Gambar
Plastic is abundant in business and everyday life. We can find it as product components, containers of products, and furniture. Plastic have many uses in the medical field as well, with the introduction of polymer implants and other medical decives derived at least partially from plastic. Almost everyone knows plastic and using it, but most of them don’t know how to manufacture it. Early plastics were bio-derived materials such as egg and blood proteins, which are organic polymers. The development of plastics has envolved from the use of natural plastic materials (e.g., shellac) to the of chemically modified, natural materials (e.g., natural rubber, nitrocellulose, collagen) and finally to completely synthetic molecules (e.g., bakelite, expoy, polivynil chloride). Parkesine (nitrocellulose) is considered the first man-made plastic. The plastic material was patented by Alexander Parkes, in Birmingham, England in1856. Parkesine was made from cellulose, the major component of...

Know!: Good Plastic and Bad Plastic

Gambar
In the modern era, mostly equipment is produced with plastic based, such as  table, chair, door, shower products, and dinnerware. But, not all of plastic products safe for the body. A lot of types of plastic that we’ve produced today and used. There are around 30 different types of plastic in regular use. Basically there are two types, that is good plastic and bad plastic. Here, the types plastics we’re discussing is good plastic or bad plastics for human use. In this essay, I would like to explain about three types of good plastic and three of bad plastic. For good plastic, probably the easiest to identify is Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET). It is used for the clear plastic bottles which we find in supermarkets, containing fizzy drinks such as lemonade and cola. PET soft drink bottles make up about 20 per cent of all moulded plastic containers. It was known as the safest and as a well known plastic and easy to be recycled. However, recently they found that traces of DEHP in...
